After a summer of oppressive heat and humidity, I can ‘fess up that I did not bake much at all these last few months. On a day that wasn’t quite so bad recently I finally turned on my oven to experiment with some lavender sugar someone had given me.
Buttery and sweet. With just a touch of lavender. Nothing overwhelming.
Oh, and it uses just 4 ingredients.
1 cup softened butter
1/2 C lavender sugar
1/8 tsp salt
2 C flour
Cream butter and sugar together, then add salt and flour. Mix thoroughly. Chill for one hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. form the dough into balls (@1″) and roll in additional lavender sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes. Remove and cool.
In case you’re wondering how in the world you get lavender sugar, I just did a little research and found out you can easily make your own. Just obtain some culinary lavender (safe for cooking and baking), chop fine in a food processor, and add to white sugar. Let sit in a sealed container for several weeks to infuse. Supposedly it’s good in other baked goods as well as lemonade.
